Lex, Bartlett, and the project doctor are in the laboratory of the dam observing the captured phantom in the boy's form. They take a blood sample to confirm that the phantom is inhabiting the boy, but shortly after the sample is taken, the boy breaks out of the detainment room and kills Bartlett. Lex pushes the doctor into the path of the wraith and leaves him behind to be killed so he can buy more time to escape. When Lex is nearing the exit, he is blindsided by Clark. Clark, furious over Lana's death, grabs Lex and demands to know why Lex did it. Lex claims he doesn't know what Clark is talking about. Clark tells him what happened to Lana insinuating that it was orchestrated by Lex. When the boy appears at the end of the hall, Lex says it will kill them both. Clark lets him go and Lex runs away. Lex tries to escape but his car is stopped on the dam by several police cruisers. They order him out of the vehicle and arrest him for the murder of Lana Luthor.

Rory's life is experiencing a similar, albeit less self-induced, shakeup c/o Logan's post-grad yearlong stint in London. After clumsily confronting Mitchum and making the entire situation about herself, Rory seems to realize that this job might not be the worst thing to happen to her boyfriend, whose idiocy nearly caused his death mere weeks ago. I refuse to waste time on the UK-themed goodbye bash, but will say that Rory and Logan's tearful goodbye scene made me sad ... momentarily. But then I remembered that these two idiots haven't even discussed what their relationship will look like with distance added into the mix.

Amber thinks she has a big scar, but Meredith tells her that it'll look better once it's healed. Trish says the fingers are just bumps and bruises, but Amber disagrees. Trish says she knows, but they're alive. Amber says she sometimes has to call in sick because she's too angry about what happened to her to drive her car. Amber was afraid to tell Trish, because she thinks it makes her look weak and ungrateful. Since they're friends, Amber would like to get real for once. Trish opens up and says she can't watch romantic comedies anymore because she wants to scream at the women. Not being able to find Mr. Right is just a small problem compared to having most of your face burned off. They laugh and hug.
In the final scene, the ponies and Spike have a do-over on their boat trip and have fun doing the different activities that Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie originally planned, ending with a round of ice cream. Twilight expresses to Spike that "there's nothing like a luxurious adventure boat party to get you out of your element". She replaces Spike's scroll and quill with an ice cream goblet, and Spike agrees with the sentiment.
No longer on the edge of death, Giles wakes up and tells Anya that the magic he received was intended for Willow to steal. It tapped into her remaining emotions and gave Xander the chance to reach her humanity. Anya is shocked to find that Xander saved the world. Back in the crypt, the Earth-creatures disappear, and Buffy starts to cry happy tears. Dawn questions whether instead she really wanted the world to end. Buffy assures her that she didn't and promises things are going to get better; she no longer has any regrets or resentment about being resurrected and feels ready to live, wanting to be there for Dawn and see the powerful woman she'll become. For the second time in a year, Buffy emerges from a grave but this time she feels truly alive. She helps Dawn climb out of the hole and the sisters check out the horizon while Xander continues to comfort Willow, Jonathan and Andrew hitch a ride toward Mexico, and Anya helps Giles to his feet and out of the wreckage of the Magic Box.
