Maker's Mark Mint Julep Buy UPD

To make a simple syrup, just add equal parts sugar and water to a small pot over high heat and whisk until the sugar is dissolved. Next, transfer it to a heat-safe glass and allow it to cool before using it for your mint julep.

A ready made cocktail, sort of, from Maker's Mark, infusing mint flavours into their regular whiskey along with adding a touch of sugar to produce a spirit that only needs mixing with a silver cup of crushed ice to produce a refreshing julep.

The Reason: The most legendary cocktail in horse racing. Watch the Road to the Kentucky Derby races and get ready for the run for the roses with a classic mint julep. After all, it's #mintjulepmonth!

The High West Manhattan is a COMPLETELY different animal because it is a barrel-aged cocktail vs a purposely pre-made mix like the MM Mint Julep. In addition, the ingredients in a Manhattan don't need to be as "fresh" like a mint julep.

On another note, I tried for years to make a "good" mint julep and they were generally not well received. I even grow several varieties (pep, spear, choc) of mint to use. When I went to the Derby several years ago I decided to get an "official" mint julep and really enjoyed it. When I asked the bar tender how she made them, she pulled out a bottle of ETMJ, so I just started buying it. I have about 10 different years of ETMJ (commemorative bottles???) and thought one day I would try them all and see how they are different with age.

Every year, Woodford Reserve releases an exclusive cup for a limited number of buyers and usually master distiller Chris Morris makes the lucky few a special mint julep in it at the Kentucky Derby. The cups raise money for special charities, usually associated with racing.

A total of 100 julep cups went on sale April 6 at woodfordreservemintjulep.com. Cups number 1-11 are gold-plated and sell for $2,500 each. Cups 12-100 are silver-plated and sell for $1,000 each, according to Woodford Reserve. And each cup is engraved with the name of one Black jockey and the year or years he won the Derby.

In the julep cup, add half-ounce cherry juice. Add half a vanilla bean pod cut into small segments. Add teaspoon of powdered sugar. Muddle or mix together. Add crushed ice to 2/3 of the cup. Add 2 ounces of Woodford Reserve. Top off the cup with crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig, real cherry, and vanilla bean pod.

Ironically, the only point of consensus is that there is just one way to attack the problems of war and peace, expanded civil rights, job creation and development, terror, health care, education and the environment. And the "one way" is neither the Democratic way nor the Republican way. It is through compromise, discussion, healthy debate, attending dinners and luncheons together, playing golf and basketball, or poker, sharing a mint julep or a Makers Mark, and so on. It is about relationships, camaraderie, and collegiality.

The state of Kentucky is known for several things. One is the Kentucky Derby. The other is bourbon whiskey. And a third that combines both of them is the official drink of Kentucky Derby, the mint julep. 041b061a72
